Your logbook lives on your device and in backups that exist for one purpose: giving it back to you. No analytics, no tracking, no advertising, nothing shared or sold, ever.
Your flights and settings are saved on your device, synced between your own devices through your own iCloud (including weekly safety copies), and mirrored to a secure cloud backup hosted on Google Firebase in the EU. The cloud backup is tied to an anonymous sign-in created on first launch; linking your Apple ID lets you restore it on a new phone. CSV files you import are read once and not kept; only the flights from them are stored.
The backup contains your logbook: flights (with any signed endorsements), expiry dates and hour periods. It is readable only by your signed-in user, is never used for anything except restoring your logbook, and is never shared with or sold to anyone. When you use Sign in with Apple you can hide your email; we do not use it either way. To remove the backup entirely, use Start fresh (delete all data) in Settings or email admin@sectorlogbook.com and we will delete it.
When you photograph a page of a paper logbook, that photo is sent over an encrypted connection to our reading service, where an AI model (Google Gemini) transcribes the rows and sends them straight back for you to review. The photo is used only to read that page: Sector does not store your photos, and the only record kept is a count of how many pages you have scanned, which is what your page allowance is measured against. Nothing is saved to your logbook until you approve it.
Sector Pro purchases are processed by Apple. We use RevenueCat to check whether a purchase is active; this involves an anonymous device identifier and receipt data, never your name, email or contacts. Payment details are handled entirely by Apple and never reach us.
The file picker opens when you import, the camera or photo library only when you scan a paper page, the share sheet when you export, notifications only if you turn reminders on, and Face ID only if you turn the lock on. Sector asks for nothing else.
The map background is loaded from OpenStreetMap when you open the Route map screen, which is a normal web request to their servers. Your flights, airports and routes are drawn on top by the app itself.
If the app ever changes how it handles data, this policy will be updated and the change noted in the app update notes.
